Shipcarpenter Square

Located in historic Lewes, Delaware, Shipcarpenter Square is a neighborhood of restored 18th and 19th century homes. The tranquil community consists of 36 homes and encompasses one city block just steps away from downtown Lewes. In the center of the community is the Commons, which is a replica of an historic green.

Shipcarpenter Square is a unique community in that the homes consist of historic homes that were relocated from other locations, mostly from within Sussex county. In the early 1980's, the homes were moved (either intact or dismantled and reassembled) to their current location. The homes include colonial style farmhouses, a travelers’ inn from rural Sussex County, three barns, a schoolhouse, two Victorian homes, a log home, a lifesaving station, a corner market and a lighthouse.

Homeowners treasure the history of their homes and are dedicated to their preservation. Association members meet regularly to collectively maintain the unique nature of the community. Shipcarpenter Square is a vibrant community, with social activities, such as a summer potluck picnic on the Commons in August and a Holiday party in December.
